The Bloom Catalogue Raisonné Project
In 2015, a systematic effort was undertaken to document the complete body of work of Hyman Bloom (1913–2009). The project has grown into a comprehensive research database covering paintings and works on paper produced across Bloom’s seven-decade career.
The current state of the Catalogue :
- Total paintings and drawings catalogued —2,391
- Sketchbook pages — 5,040
- Works in museum collections — 253
- Exhibitions catalogued — 176
Each record documents medium/support, dimensions, provenance, exhibition history, auction records, and publication references where known.
public Access
A public subset of the full database is available. The subset includes all paintings and drawings in museum collections as well as all missing pictures.
Research Access
The full catalogue is a working scholarly resource, not yet a public database. Curators, art historians, and serious researchers with a professional interest in Bloom’s work are welcome to request access. Inquiries may be submitted through the contact form on this site.
highlighted MISSING PICTUREs
There are a half-dozen Bloom paintings from the 1940s and 1950s that are now missing. Additionally, about 30 major drawings from the 1950s and 1960s are currently not located. Many of these works were exhibited shortly after their creation, but have not been seen in 60+ years.
