DANFORTH ART — The Expressive Voice: Landscape Reimagined (March 15–May 17, 2015)

“Danforth Art is pleased to present the third installment of The Expressive Voice, a year-long exploration of the permanent collection. Works on view this spring represent both traditional interpretations of landscape and more unconventional approaches which subvert the definition. A significant focus of this installation is work representing artists associated with Boston Expressionism. These artists complicate our understandings of landscape by working primarily from memory, resulting in scenes that are often deeply psychological and emotionally intensive. Works on view from the mid-twentieth century to today range from complex abstracted approaches of the natural world to expressive cityscapes, many which redefine and reimagine landscape traditions.”

A concurrent exhibition of on-loan Hyman Bloom paintings and drawings is also being shown.
